Sigma Designs to Demonstrate New Class of Media Processor Chips for Advanced IPTV Set-tops at IBC 2005
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Sept. 12, 2005—
Sigma Designs (Nasdaq:SIGM) announced it will be
demonstrating its SMP8634 media processor at the IBC 2005
(International Broadcast Conference) in Amsterdam September 9-13, with
Scientific-Atlanta's (NYSE:SFA) advanced IPTV set-top box, product mix
to address telco opportunities on a worldwide basis. The demonstration
of the new class of system-on-chip (SOC) based set-top box platforms
will be shown at the Scientific-Atlanta stand (Stand 1.471).
As a part of an overall thrust to deliver next generation video
services on a worldwide basis, the telco industry is preparing to
deploy advanced Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) solutions that
provide an exciting new user experience. This increased performance
comes in part from a new generation of media processor chips which
supports advanced video decoding and display options. Next-generation
IPTV solutions will enable customers to conveniently access a broader
array of TV programming, video-on-demand, interactive applications and
other advanced features. The platform being demonstrated at IBC, based
on Sigma's SMP8634 media processor, should deliver an unprecedented
